Fuck Canada // Fuck America is a seminal early work by Aaron Funk, better known as Venetian Snares, released in 1999. While Funk would later become famous for his complex 7/4 time signatures and integration of classical strings (most notably on Rossz Csillag Alatt Született), this album showcases his roots in the 'hardcore' and 'gabber' scenes. The production is significantly more lo-fi and abrasive than his later output, relying on the raw power of tracker-based sequencing to create 'snare rushes' that define the breakcore aesthetic. The album is characterized by its confrontational titles and heavy use of provocative vocal samples, a hallmark of the early breakcore scene's desire to alienate mainstream listeners. Critically, it is viewed as a foundational text for the genre, bridging the gap between the jungle-techno of the early 90s and the more experimental, 'glitchy' IDM that would follow in the 2000s.
