Flowerhill Drive

Released in early 2017, Flowerhill Drive served as a foundational release for the Southern California duo Dream, Ivory. Comprised of brothers Christian and Louie Baello, the project emerged during the height of the 'bedroom pop' explosion, yet distinguished itself through a more sophisticated grasp of guitar-driven dream pop and shoegaze textures than many of its peers. The EP is anchored by the breakout success of 'welcome and goodbye', a track that became a viral touchstone for the genre due to its infectious, chorus-laden guitar riff and relatable themes of fleeting connection. Sonically, the EP bridges the gap between the jangle of 80s post-punk and the relaxed, sample-influenced rhythms of modern lo-fi. Critics and fans alike have noted its ability to evoke a sense of 'anemoia' - nostalgia for a time one has never known. While brief at only four tracks, the EP established the band's signature sound: clean, melodic guitar leads, heavy spatial processing, and a vulnerable, understated vocal delivery that would define their subsequent full-length efforts.
