Februus

Released in 2011, Februus is the debut full-length from French band Uneven Structure and is widely considered a foundational pillar of the atmospheric djent movement. While many of their peers focused on the technical 'chug' of the genre, Uneven Structure utilized a three-guitar lineup to create a massive, orchestral level of texture. The album is structured as a continuous journey, often broken into movements, with a significant portion of the second disc (in some editions) dedicated entirely to ambient soundscapes. The production is notable for its 'wet' character, using heavy delay and reverb to create a sense of liquid immersion. Vocalist Matthieu Romarin provides a versatile performance, shifting from guttural screams to soaring, Akerfeldt-esque cleans that provide a melodic anchor amidst the rhythmic complexity.
