Enemy of God

Released in 2005, Enemy of God is widely considered the masterpiece of Kreator's 'rejuvenation' period. Following the experimental diversions of the 1990s and the successful return-to-form of 2001's Violent Revolution, this album solidified the band's modern identity. Produced by Andy Sneap, the record features a signature 'Sneap sound' - crystal clear, heavily compressed, and incredibly punchy - which helped define the standard for modern thrash metal production. The addition of guitarist Sami Yli-Sirniö brought a progressive, melodic sensibility to the band that allowed for more complex song structures without sacrificing the speed-metal roots established on Pleasure to Kill. Lyrically, Mille Petrozza moved toward more overt political and social critiques, influenced by the post-9/11 global climate. The album was a critical darling, often cited as one of the best metal releases of the decade, and it successfully bridged the gap between old-school thrash fans and a newer generation of melodic death metal listeners.
