Released in 2009, Ellipse is the culmination of Imogen Heap's 'vocal as instrument' philosophy, following the massive success of her previous work. The album was famously recorded in her childhood home, 'The Round House,' where she converted a basement playroom into a state-of-the-art studio. This domestic setting is central to the album's identity, as Heap utilized field recordings from the house and surrounding gardens to create organic percussion and textures. Sonically, it pushes the boundaries of art pop, blending glitchy IDM-lite rhythms with lush, orchestral-style vocal arrangements.
