Dumb Flesh

Dumb Flesh is the second studio album by English experimental musician Benjamin John Power under his Blanck Mass moniker, released on May 11, 2015. Following his self-titled debut, this album represents a significant shift toward a more aggressive, beat-driven, and physical sound. While his early work leaned into pastoral drone and ambient landscapes, Dumb Flesh embraces the visceral realities of the human body, exploring themes of biological decay, mutation, and physical form through the lens of industrial techno and noise rock.

Recorded and produced by Power, the album features eight tracks that run the gamut from short, atmospheric vignettes like 'Loam' to sprawling, ten-minute epics like 'No Lite'. The production is characterized by its extreme density, pushing digital headroom to its absolute limits with heavily compressed drums, distorted synth lines, and intricate vocal manipulation. Tracks like 'Dead Format' and 'Cruel Sport' showcase Power's ability to marry confrontational, abrasive textures with infectious, driving hooks, creating a unique brand of body music that is both challenging and accessible.
