Dragonheads

Released in 2006, Dragonheads is a pivotal EP that introduced a new lineup following the departure of founding vocalist Jari Mäenpää. Recorded at Sonic Pump Studios, it serves as a showcase for Petri Lindroos's harsher vocal style while doubling down on the band's 'folk' credentials. The tracklist is a curated mix of new material, re-recorded 1999 demos ('Warrior's Quest' and 'White Storm'), and a cover of Amorphis's 'Into Hiding,' which pays homage to the pioneers of the Finnish sound. The inclusion of the 'Finnish Medley' - incorporating traditional songs like 'Myrskyluodon Maija' - solidified Ensiferum's role as cultural ambassadors. Critically, the EP was seen as a successful proof-of-concept for the band's second era, proving they could maintain their heroic atmosphere and technical precision despite significant internal changes.
