Devil in the Shortwave

Released in 2002, Devil in the Shortwave is a seminal EP in The Mountain Goats' discography, marking one of the final major releases of John Darnielle's 'boombox era' before transitioning to studio production with Tallahassee. Recorded primarily on a Panasonic RX-FT500, the EP is defined by its heavy tape saturation and the audible mechanical whir of the recorder. The tracklist features a mix of original compositions and a notable cover of 'Dirty Old Town'.
