Dancin’ and Lovin’

Released in late 1978, Dancin' and Lovin' is a pivotal 'pivot' album in The Spinners' discography. After a legendary run with producer Thom Bell that defined the 'Philly Soul' sound, the group faced a commercial slump and the departure of lead singer Philippé Wynne. This album marks their aggressive embrace of the disco craze, enlisting Michael Zager (of 'Let's All Chant' fame) to help modernize their sound. The result was a massive commercial comeback, anchored by the smash hit medley 'Working My Way Back to You / Forgive Me Girl.' Sonically, the album is characterized by longer track lengths (averaging six minutes) to accommodate club play, featuring prominent synth work and driving percussion.
