Cry & Dry EP

Released in December 1999 on the Primevil label, the Cry & Dry EP is a definitive document of Misstress Barbara's early career as a techno purist. While she would later become known for her vocal-led 'human' techno and indie-pop crossovers, this EP is a stark, instrumental affair that leans heavily into the tribal techno and hard-groove styles prevalent at the turn of the millennium. The four untitled tracks function as DJ tools, characterized by high-BPM counts, relentless percussion loops, and a minimalist approach to arrangement. The production is typical of the era's analog-leaning techno, featuring warm but aggressive low-ends and sharp, compressed high frequencies.
