Cold World

Released in 2016, Cold World represents a significant stylistic evolution for Of Mice & Men, moving further away from their metalcore roots toward a sound heavily influenced by nu-metal and alternative metal. Produced by David Bendeth, the album features a more organic, albeit darker, production style compared to the high-gloss finish of its predecessor, Restoring Force. The recording was deeply impacted by frontman Austin Carlile's ongoing battle with Marfan Syndrome, a struggle that is explicitly addressed in the lead single 'Pain.' This context imbues the album with a sense of urgency and physical toll that distinguishes it within their discography. It is the final album to feature Carlile, marking the end of an era for the group. While it polarized some long-time fans due to its slower tempos and rhythmic focus, it solidified the band's ability to command an arena-rock scale while maintaining a gritty, underground edge.
