Chicken Store

Released in 2004, Chicken Store is a definitive document of the 'Minimal Man' project, a moniker for the UK-based producer Eon (Ian Loveday). While Eon was known for more maximalist rave and acid house, Minimal Man represented a pivot toward the skeletal, reductionist aesthetic that would later define the Berlin minimal scene. This EP, particularly the title track, showcases a mastery of 'negative space' techno, where the groove is derived from the absence of sound as much as the presence of it. The 2004 release on vinyl (45 RPM) emphasizes the high-fidelity, tactile nature of the production. Tracks like 'Chickappella' demonstrate a willingness to experiment with drum-less rhythmic structures, while 'Stay On (A.M. edit)' provides a slightly more melodic, though still strictly restrained, late-night atmosphere.
