Chamber Music

Released in 1999, Chamber Music is the second studio album by Coal Chamber and marks a significant stylistic evolution from their self-titled debut. Produced by Josh Abraham, the record saw the band incorporating heavy industrial elements and gothic atmospheres, moving away from the stripped-back groove metal of their early years. This shift was partly influenced by the band's desire to expand their sonic palette, resulting in a more melodic and experimental sound that included the use of keyboards and electronic programming. The album is most famous for its cover of Peter Gabriel's 'Shock the Monkey,' featuring guest vocals from Ozzy Osbourne, which helped the album reach #22 on the Billboard 200. Despite the added polish, the core of the band - Rayna Foss's percussive bass and Meegs Rascón's jagged guitar work - remained central to the identity of the tracks. It stands as a pivotal release that bridged the gap between the aggressive nu metal scene and the burgeoning industrial-goth crossover movement of the late 90s.
