Cast in Stone

Released in 1997, Cast in Stone marked the highly anticipated reunion of the 'classic' Venom lineup after a twelve-year split. Recorded at Lartington Hall Studios, the album represents a significant sonic shift from the band's lo-fi roots toward a more robust, '90s-appropriate production style. While the band originally sought Motörhead producer Howard Benson, the resulting self-produced sound is remarkably dense, featuring a prominent, distorted bass presence and the inclusion of electronic samples - a first for the group. The album is notable for its length, featuring 14 new tracks followed by 10 re-recordings of classic anthems, effectively serving as both a comeback and a retrospective. It remains the final studio document of the original trio, as Abaddon would depart shortly after. Critically, it is viewed as a solid, if slightly overlong, return to form that successfully modernized the 'Venom sound' without sacrificing their foundational grit.
