Acid People

Released in early 2006 on Tempa, Acid People arrived just as Skream was cementing his status as the primary architect of dubstep's global ascent. This EP serves as a bridge between the deep, meditative 'skank' of his earliest work and the more aggressive, synth-driven textures that would soon dominate the scene. The track 'Acid People' is particularly notable for its cross-pollination of acid techno elements with the 140bpm dubstep framework, a move that was highly experimental at the time. Recording-wise, the EP showcases Skream's signature use of Fruity Loops to achieve a surprisingly warm and 'analog' sub-bass response. Critically, it is viewed as a companion piece to his self-titled debut album, representing the 'darker' side of his production palette. The track 'Skunk Step' remains a cult favorite for its minimalist construction and relentless low-end pressure, embodying the 'less is more' philosophy of the early London scene.
